BIBLE STUDY: Spiritual Warfare 5 - The Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6: 17 states: Also put on "the helmet of salvation," and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of YAHWEH;( Isaiah 49: 2; Hosea 6: 5)

The Sword of the Spirit

The last piece of armor in the armor of YHWH is the Sword of the Spirit. It is the only offensive weapon mentioned in the armor stated in Ephesians chapter 6. The spiritual battle is taking place in our minds. We must wield the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of YHWH in order to win the battles against our enemies.

Walking in Yahshua’s light is critical to win the battle

Walking in the light and not walking in darkness is important in order to win the spiritual battles ( 1 John 1 : 5-7; 2: 8-11). Yahshua is the light of the world (John 1: 4-9). He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. Just as in the natural we have light and darkness in the spiritual we have light and darkness also (Gen. 1: 3-5). Our enemy, Satan, dwells in darkness. He wants to make us dwell in darkness also. Keeping us guilty, sick, despairing, sin-infested and faithless. When Yahshua shed His blood on Calvary's tree He died so we can have a guilt-free conscience, with wellness, hope, righteousness, faithfulness and love.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood

When the battle is raging between us, Yahshua’s bride and those opposed to Him we have to keep reminding ourselves that we are fighting against unseen spiritual forces and not human beings (Eph. 6: 12). Some humans are like puppets in their hands. We must resist the devil and he will flee. Sometimes this means not allowing people to take advantage of us. We do not have to allow others to ill-treat us without fighting back. And this does not mean physically attacking others but doing good to those who hate us, blessing those who curse us and praying for those who persecute us and despitefully use us (Matt. 5: 44).

How Yahshua Used the Sword of the Spirit

When we are using the sword of the Spirit ie. the Word of YHWH. We have to speak the word and believe it will happen. When confronting the devil in the wilderness Yahshua met every attack with the written and spoken word of YHWH (Matt. 4: 1-11) . When he said to Yahshua, "If you are the Son of YHWH command that these stones be made bread ". Yahshua answering said "It has been written Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of YHWH! (Deut. 8: 3)" So Yahshua refused to obey him and using the sword of the Spirit He was able to cut off the temptation to satisfy His craving to eat food by obeying the commandment of YHWH to live by every word that comes from the mouth of YHWH. Believers must be alert to the Spirit of Messiah in us to know what He is saying when we are engaged with the enemy. The enemy is present in even those closest to us trying to make us compromise our faith.

He, Yahshua, was showing that even in this difficult situation, not having eaten for 40 days, he was still strong in spirit to refute the enemy. We must have this same determination to resist the evil one with all that we can muster. Putting on the armor of YHWH gives us this protection. And the sword (the Word) we must use to cut to pieces the words and the evils that the enemy is throwing at us. We must have the alertness to be praying even when we are in situations where we are uncomfortable. It is here that our faith and trust in YHWH comes alive. He will supply what we need at this very moment to make us do what we have to do to achieve the result we desire. This morning I was in such a position and I asked the Father to give me the strength to withstand the evil words being channeled at me by someone. Yahshua gave me the scripture in Philippians 4: 6-7; "Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and by petition with thanksgivings, let your requests be made known to Elohim; 7 and the peace of YAHWEH which surpasses all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds through Messiah Yahshua".

So I prayed that the person would be subject to Yahshua's love and control and turn from their wrong path and that I will be submerged in His peace in order not to be affected by the evil ones weapons. Thank Father YHWH just as I asked I received and He made sure that my day was peaceful and fulfilling in addition to the present moment when I made the prayer.
